On Wednesday, February 24th, the Temecula Valley Players is proud to present the incomparable Virgil Gibson, former lead singer of the world famous Platters. His “Remember the Magic” concert at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater, will bring back the great sounds of the doo-wop era, with tunes like “Only You,” “Up On The Roof,” “In The Still Of The Night,” “You Send Me,” “My Girl,” “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” and many more. Virgil was also the former lead singer for over 17 years of the popular, high-octane Rivingtons (“Papa Oom Mow Mow”). Gibson’s repertoire includes gospel, country and pop.
Virgil has appeared with many great entertainers including The Drifters, The Coasters, The O’Jays, Bobby Day, Dee Clark and Al Wilson. Virgil recently returned from living and performing throughout Europe, where he served as Marketing Director for the U.S.O. In addition to performing all over the United States and Canada, Virgil’s music has taken him to Japan, Korea, Italy, Germany, Venezuela, Philippines, Denmark, Sweden, and Canada. Virgil’s recent CD recordings, “Virgil Gibson Sings the Oldies”, bring back the best of the Golden Age of the 50’s and 60’s music.
Audiences of all ages and cultures thrill to Virgil’s six octave voice and charismatic personality. Virgil recently completed, “I Made It Back Home”, an album of traditional gospel favorites.
Virgil has a deep interest in using music therapeutically. “I’m a counselor by profession, majoring in Psychology in college. My greatest counseling gift comes from God, as well as my music ability.” “Music is one of the greatest counseling and teaching tools. It touches your deepest feelings and enables you to talk about those feelings and begin to deal with them.”
