13th Annual Senior Games & International Sports Festival Slated for February 2013

Registration is now open for the 13th Annual Palm Desert Senior Games & International Sports Festival. Hosted by the City of Palm Desert, California and the Desert Recreation District, this four-day competition takes places from February 7 – 10, 2013. Athletes and spectators, alike, look forward to this event each year as adult athletes from throughout the United States and Canada compete in 13 sports.

In partnership with the California Senior Games and National Senior Games Association, this event is one of the few in the Southwestern U.S. that serves to qualify senior (age 55+) athletes for state and national Senior Games. Over 1,000 athletes participate each year in this world-class event, competing in sports ranging from track & field and soccer to swimming and pickelball.

Festival headquarters will be the Palm Desert Community Center, with games taking place in venues throughout the city. With the event being competitive, spectators are encouraged to come and cheer for the athletes. All events are free to spectators.

Registration is open and will close January 25, 2013. Participants can register online at: MyRecreationDistrict.com or DesertSeniorGames.org. Participation fee is $40.   There is a $7 per event fee. Team fees vary on sport. For information or hardcopy registration forms, athletes can call the Desert Recreation District at (760) 541-4184.

Opening Ceremonies promise to be fun and entertaining. They will take place on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 3:30pm at Palm Desert Civic Center Park. The Stanley Butler Band is scheduled to entertain and honor the athletes. John’s Restaurant will be hosting a barbeque meal, available for $15 per person.
