Whether you are an adult or child, each person is always searching for a hero. The Avengers movie, a compilation of several comic book heroes, had over $1.2 billion in ticket sales. Spiderman and Batman movies did very well also. Why? It’s because as human beings, we are always searching for the person or persons who will inspire us to go above and beyond.
While each of the above characters may be fictional, every person usually has several heroes in their lives that usually mean more to them than any comic book character. The person could be their father, mother, or other relative. Their hero can be a close friend or business colleague. Regardless of the person, all of these people have several things in common.
Every hero usually does something selfless and touches us in such a way as to inspire us. For many people, one or both of their parents serve as their hero. They see their hard work and constant dedication to making them a better person. Their parent(s) surprise them consistently with how far they will go to insure their son or daughter is happy and succeeds.
However, not all parents can serve an individual’s hero for a variety of reasons. Thus, it is not uncommon to find heroes within your friends or colleagues. The bond a person may have with their friend or colleague may surpass that of a parent. The person could have helped them through a very rough patch without question or simply shown them the way to success. This established a connection and made them a hero in their eyes.
Unfortunately, many people still struggle to find a hero. They generally do not have parents who are around and no close friends. This is particularly hard for young children. In these situations, mentoring, coaching, and big brother/sister programs are key. If you are fortunate enough to have a hero, take the time to be a hero to one of these kids. The love you give cannot be compared and you will guide our next generation of citizens.
