With the warm season right around the corner, JDS Creative Academy is gearing up for its highly-anticipated summer camp. The two-week program invites campers to participate in an exciting and engaging hands-on experience that unfolds into a fantastic performance. They will write, act, and perform in their very own original production with sets, props, and costumes they help create!
Campers engage in every aspect of putting together a play – from the inception to the execution. Each year, a classic fairytale is chosen as the moral of their creative production. Then, with the assistance of Award-Winning Writer and Producer Johanna Lack, the campers create a unique script inspired by the original fairytale. Very quickly they begin turning their vision into reality.
In the mornings, they work with Creative Designer Katie McColm to hone their backstage production skills. From set building to costume design and props, they collaborate with one another to bring their imagination to life. After lunch, the afternoon is dedicated to giving the campers a chance to refine their acting and storytelling skills. Through improv and theater exercises, they take the stage and the magic begins. At the end of the two weeks, campers will have an experience and training they can use for a lifetime, the two weeks are a dynamic hands-on, fun bonding camp – with an end result they can be proud of.
The summer camp collaborates all its creative programs putting them into one two-week extravaganza. This innovative, original curriculum promotes JDS Creative Academy’s mission to advance education and training in the visual, performing, and digital arts, as well as foster creativity in a diverse and inclusive community. Campers will leave the program feeling inspired, having engaged in a creative enrichment environment, increased their self-confidence, and developed leadership and collaboration skills.
For ages 10 and up, the program will take place Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m The fun begins June 17th and continues through to June 28th. Summertime fun afternoon snacks are provided– campers bring their own lunch.
