More and more families are living in two income households. Our kids are growing up while we work day and night. Nannies, extended families, and friends are helping raise our kids while we work to provide food on the table and buy them the latest gadgets. In these times, it is even more important to remember the special moments.
Every day, our kids look to us, even in the briefest of moments for some special tender, loving care. It could be to help them with an assignment. It could be to watch them ride their bike. It could simply be to give them a hug. They crave our attention.
Many times this desire for time is not articulated well by our kids. They will often exhibit this need through acting out or lashing out for the most miniscule of things. We usually take this as disrespect or direct mutiny against us. Instead, they are often our children’s attempt to get our attention. They are calling for our time.
We can easily forget how precious these moments are for our kids. In our rush to make sure we give them the best, we sometimes may forget that our children may just want some more of our time. Do not always focus on making that extra dollar so your kids can get a better toy or the new game system.
Your kids won’t remember the toy several years from now. They will remember that you helped them with their homework. They’ll remember that you went to their soccer games. They will cherish every moment you spent coaching them on and off the field.
Remember these “moments” are what kids want more than any superficial object or toy. Your kids and life will reward you in return. Should you have any questions about MYSL or Surf Soccer or want to find out more details about soccer, feel free to contact me at president@myslsoccer.org.
