Giving

Every holiday season, many of us spend some time or our money to give back to our community. This could be through spending time at a soup kitchen or it might involve donating money to our favorite charity(ies). Regardless, giving back is very common during November and December.

Community involvement is important for your personal growth, teaching your children about responsibility, and giving back to your city. With each hour you put in, you will see the benefits that you create and the smiles you bring to those individuals you touch. Not everyone can be as fortunate as others. The more we all pitch in, the better our world becomes.

Saying the above, giving should not be limited to just those months. Giving does not have to involve paying money to charities. Charities should also not just be given funds when there is a tragedy. Giving back should become a part of your routine just like brushing your teeth or taking a shower.

We are all busy and consider ourselves focused on our work, family, or other loved ones. These are all important aspects of life. However, it’s important to make one of our New Years resolutions to give back more. For those with the financial means, it would entail giving money all year round and not just during the holidays. Money does not and should not be the only way we contribute. Many of us cannot afford to give money regularly. In addition, time is generally more valuable to most charities. This could be helping out with your child’s classroom, assisting the local soccer league, working with a homeless shelter, or any other local charity.

If each of us made a commitment to give back two to five hours a month every month (not just during the holidays), our community would grow beyond belief. Those less fortunate would see support. Charities would be able to do many of those projects that have sat on the side waiting for more people. Our world would become a much better place.

Give back and remember that you could make a difference every month! Should you have any questions about MYSL or Surf Soccer or want to volunteer, feel free to contact me at president@myslsoccer.org.
