Cure for Boredom

Over the course of my life, I have heard people say they are bored many times. My kids constantly say they are bored especially on long road trips or after a few weeks of summer vacation. However, Earl Nightingale said it well when he stated, ” You’ll find boredom where there is the absence of a good idea.” Instead of spending anytime focusing on your boredom, find an activity, thought, or other fascination to take away your thoughts of Boredom. Two of the easiest solutions to boredom are to do something you haven’t done in a while or find an activity that you’ve never tried before.

While you can watch the same shows you always do or follow the same routine as any other day, a common solution to boredom is to find that needle in haystack of things you rarely do. For instance, if you’ve lived in Southern California, when was the last time you visited the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Cabrillo Monument, or any other tourist attraction. Alternatively, when was the last time you played a card game or picked out a board game. These are all activities that bring families together and can take away from the feeling of boredom that sometimes envelops people.

Another remedy for boredom is to do something that you’ve never done. Your family should sit down one day and create a list of activities, places you want to go, or foods you want to try. You can limit to within 1 hour or however way you want it in order to not make it unrealistic. It would be like your bucket list for boredom. Everyone should contribute to the list and no one should bad mouth another person’s ideas. Whenever you have a day or a weekend where the boredom mindset is running rampant, track down the list and choose one or more items to complete. Suddenly, your family will find a new passion or joy that they never knew they had.

Find the new passion and avoid boredom. Should you have any questions about being a champion or want to find out more details about soccer, feel free to contact me at president@murrietasurfsoccer.org
