Welcome to THE CHIEF!

By Captain Chris Randel

I would like to welcome all previous customers of the old “Big Game 90” and “Mascot VI” to the newest version of this famous vessel, now renamed “Chief”. The “Chief” will operate out of H&M Landing in Point Loma, San Diego and the landing will handle all open-party reservations.

Captain Chris Randel has taken command of the “Chief” and brings 25 years of experience in the San Diego sport fleet along with a great reputation for customer service to the operation. Chris has staffed the vessel with former crew members of the “Indian” and Chef Ian Rea serves up tasty gourmet meals and snacks in the Galley. The Chief boasts two indoor roomy heads with fresh hot water showers allowing anglers all the comforts of home. We have staterooms and open berthing areas that are well-ventilated and suited to your needs. The vessel has a twin 3-ton spray brine fish wells to preserve your catch and we also offer custom fish filleting for a nominal charge and your fish will be cut to order sealed in bags ready for freezing or cooking when you arrive at your destination.

Our 2013 open-party schedule can be viewed at www.hmlanding.com. Just click on multi-day trips and select “Chief” and you can see or purchase your next fishing vacation. 1 ½ day trip prices include permits (meals extra) via open galley. Fishing trips are at fair prices with no hidden charges in a friendly atmosphere where customer service is our top priority. Visit our website at www.chiefsportfishing.com and follow us on Facebook under “Chief” sport fishing.

If you are a tackle shop owner/operator, we can tailor make a group charter down to the last detail. We also offer a complete open party schedule for individuals or small groups of friends that just want to have a great time on the water catching quality ocean fish like Yellow fin, Bluefin, Albacore, Yellowtail and Dorado in the summer months. During fall and winter we have bottom fishing trips at various lengths for tasty Rock cod like Salmon Grouper, Reds, Ling Cod and more at reduced rates from November through March.

Over the past 24 months, the vessel has received an extensive modernization with lots of improvements as follows:

Complete galley remodel with all new wall and floor coverings, upholstery, curtains, new stools, new six-person booth, twin flat-screen TVs with play station that has 300 movies and surround-sound. Galley now has seating for 25 people!

The vessel was repainted with Awl Grip polyurethane and shines like never before! The bridge received an electrical overhaul with lots of new equipment, electrical panels, computer, Nobel Tec navigation system, GPS, gauges, alarms and radios to make her state-of-the-art and ready to fish. The boat was repowered in 2010 with MTU diesel engines with a very low 4100 hours and twin generators so we are focusing our efforts on the electrical systems, pumps, refrigeration units and water-makers to get things up to speed and ship-shape.
