For the past 10+ years, Southern California Wine Country’s early pioneer and highly-acclaimed vintner, Jim Carter, has been working with neighbors and the officials of Riverside County to bring this 109-acre luxury lifestyle resort to life. Jim Carter’s entrepreneurial adventure expanded with the opening of phase one of the Carter Estate Winery and Resort on Friday, May 15th.
The new winery resort sits on 119 acres of prime Southern California wine country vineyards, just minutes outside of Temecula California; and tucked amongst a portion of those rolling vineyards lies a richly appointed tasting room and wine production facility, 42 custom bungalows for overnight stays, a private guest-only pool area and eatery, the Vineyard Grill.
“Carter Estate Winery and Resort is the place to obtain the best wines and enjoy one of the most extraordinary wine country experiences in all of Southern California,” exclaims an enthusiastic Jim Carter when asked about the new addition. Catering to those wine enthusiasts that prefer high-end wines and a more intimate tasting experience, the picturesque resort will showcase world-class amenities and feature limited release wines under the Carter Estate Winery label in their tasting room, which will be open to the public daily between the hours of 11 AM to 5 PM. Reservations will be encouraged for private wine and food pairings and overnight indulgences.
The winery at Carter Estate Winery and Resort has been built exclusively for the production of world class sparkling wines. Using the traditional “Methode Champenoise” sparkling wine production at Carter Estate, the classic cuvees scheduled to be released initially include Blanc de Blanc, Blanc de Noir and Brut. A prestige cuvee, which will take five to six years to obtain the desired quality ratings, will also be part of the overall production. Evident in all Carter Estate Winery varietals – both the still and sparkling — is perfectly balanced, internationally-acknowledged wines, where varietal fruit character is at the heart of each bottle of wine.
Jim Carter has a history of successful achievements since his interlude into the wine industry. Best known for his endeavors with South Coast Winery Resort & Spa, he and his winemaking team were the first to bring the coveted California State Winery Golden Bear award to Southern California three times, in 2008, 2009 and 2013. Few know, however, that Jim Carter and his family’s vineyard history dates back over 20 years, when a 400 acre parcel was purchased in the Agua Tibia Mountains.
In 1996, Jim Carter and his family created, from scratch, what is known today as the prized South Coast Winery Wild Horse Peak Mountain Vineyards, which showcase some of the best varietals of Southern California. This Southern California vineyard sits at 2,200 feet above sea level and grows several varietals including Cabernet, Syrah, Sangiovese, Merlot and Petite Sirah, to name a few, which are as big and bold as the wild-west names given to their vineyard blocks.
