Jazz Legend Richie Cole will perform with the Jon Laskin Band with Harold Mason on Drums & Vincent Scott Banta on piano, for the Grand Opening of Jazzy’s Restaurant with two shows. No cover charge or tickets are required on Friday, June 1, 6pm & 8:30pm. Temecula’s Live Jazz venue is located at the gateway to wine country in the Palomar Village Shopping Center, 30590 Rancho California Road, #C303 in Temecula.
Jazzy’s owners, Omar and Adrenia Smith describe Temecula’s new Hot Spot as “a place of excitement for the city of Temecula and it promises to bring a greater energy to the community. Our primary mission will provide a jazzy and relaxed atmosphere for all to enjoy fine foods, great music, celebrate wine country and build new relationships. And we are very excited to bring in local celebrity and band leader Jon Laskin to host our Friday Live Jazz nights on a weekly basis”.
Cole, a Berklee College of Music graduate, joined the Buddy Rich Orchestra in 1969, later caught on with Lionel Hampton’s band, and partnered in the 1970s with Eddie Jefferson to revolutionize the art of vocalese. He also was music director for the Manhattan Transfer when that group further enhanced and popularized vocalese.
Well-known locally as a successful bandleader, Jon and his band are versatile in many musical styles and venues, from Trio to Swing/Big Band, R&B, Classic Rock and Dance. Jon’s musical credits include live television and radio, stage productions, session recording, clubs, cruise ships, conventions, many weddings, and private and major musical events. He’s even played the Love Boat. Locally, Jon and his band are the most sought after cast of live entertainers for community events, for which he often donates his equipment and musical appearances. Jon has worked and performed with such greats as Jose Feliciano, Billy Preston, Duffy Jackson (with the Count Basie band), jazz legend- Chubby Jackson (with the Woody Herman band), Richie Cole, Dick Berk, Gil Bernal, Alex Ligertwood (of Santana), Tommy Eyre (from Joe Cocker’s band), Tommy Cash, Dick Berk, The Ink Spots, Tad Weed, Scarlet Rivera (from Bob Dylan’s band).
