When South Coast Winery owner, Jim Carter, set his sights several years ago to grow the best grapes to produce the best wines in all of Southern California, little did he realize how fast the success of his visions would come to fruition.
Having earned back–to–back titles of “Best California State Winery of the Year” for 2008/09 and 2009/2010, Carter is beginning to realize the incredible potential of his Southern California vineyards. So far this year, South Coast Winery wines have earned 80 prestigious medals from just five regional and international wine competitions, including 4 Best of Class/Best of Varietal/Platinum medals, 4 Best of Class/Double Gold medals, 10 Gold medals, 37 Silver medals and 14 Bronze medals. Most recent among those competitions were the Pacific Rim and the Riverside International Wine competitions in which South Coast Winery topped the charts again.
From these two prestigious competitions alone, South Coast Winery wines earned an impressive 47 Medals. According to Carter,”Most encouraging of all is that the wine competitions are just now getting warmed up. There are quite a few more competitions to go and plenty of awards to earn,” Could it be that Carter is hinting at the possible reclamation of the California State Winery of the Year title again for 2011? Time will tell; meanwhile, a quick look at the attached At–A–Glance Results Listing from 2011 Competitions clearly proves that South Coast Winery is producing wines today that will be clear contenders in the marketplace for months and years to come. Top medal winners to keep an eye out for include:
2009 South Coast Winery GVR – Chairman’s Award/Unanimous Gold
2006 South Coast Winery Wild Horse Peak Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon – Double Gold and Best of Class Gold
