The League of California Cities® has elected Murrieta Council Member Randon Lane as second Vice- President during the organization’s Board of Directors’ meeting in Sacramento. He was elected to serve the remainder of a vacated term and will hold the position until the League’s Annual Conference in September 2018.
“It is an honor to be selected to serve as the League’s second vice president and to assume a leadership role in an organization that is the leading voice for California cities. We have many opportunities and challenges at the local level and it is more important than ever to ensure that statewide and federal policies support California cities.” said Council Member Randon Lane.
First elected to the Murrieta City Council in 2008, Lane served as Mayor in 2011 and 2016. He became involved in local government when he joined the Murrieta Planning Commission in 2003. In addition to serving his city, Council Member Lane is active regionally, serving the Riverside Transit Agency, the Southern California Association of Governments and the Western Riverside Council of Governments.
Engaged with the League in a number of capacities, Council Member Lane served on the League Board of Directors from 2011–2015 and starting again in 2017. In addition, he has been a member of the League’s Public Safety Policy Committee since 2009. Council Member Lane served on the National League of Cities Board of Directors from 2011–2013.
Professionally, Council Member Lane has a background in business and has worked in both the public and private sectors including several Fortune 500 companies. In 2006, he joined the staff of Assembly Member Kevin Jeffries, gaining valuable experience, and working with local residents on important issues.
“As second vice president, Council Member Lane will continue to be a leading voice for his city and cities across the state by advocating for policies that strengthen our communities. He brings his expertise in local government, experience working with a member of the Legislature and background in business to his new role serving the League,” said League Executive Director Carolyn Coleman. “California cities have a great deal at stake this year and I know Council Member Lane will make a valuable contribution to our team of leaders, working hard to advance policy solutions to help maintain the vibrancy of our local communities.”
In addition to electing Lane to serve as the League’s second vice president, the board also elected Grass Valley Council Member Jan Arbuckle to serve as first vice president. South San Francisco Council Member Rich Garbarino continues to serve as the League’s president. Lodi Mayor Pro Tem JoAnne Mounce remains immediate past president.
Established in 1898, the League of California Cities is a nonprofit statewide association that advocates for cities with the state and federal governments and provides education and training services to elected and appointed city officials.
