The Rotary Club of Temecula Sunrise recently inducted its 2018-2019 president, John Tamalunas. John is a relatively new member, having joined the club on August 15, 2017, but he has made his mark during the year since he joined, and was happy to be named the club’s new president.
John is a Southern California native, having spent his life in LA, San Luis Obispo, San Diego and now Temecula. After leaving his home town of Rancho Palos Verdes for college in San Luis Obispo, John graduated from Cal Poly with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry. He then moved to San Diego where he began his 20+ year career in pharmaceutical manufacturing. John is currently the Manufacturing Manager for Kinnovate Life Sciences in Oceanside.
John and India, his wife of 16 years, have two lovely daughters, Amelia (13) and Clara (10). John is first and foremost a family man. He loves nothing more than spending time with his girls and taking them on adventures, our National Parks being a family favorite destination. He strongly believes in “Service above Self” and instilling that value in his children. John and his daughters did hands-on volunteer work with Feeding America San Diego, until they moved to Temecula in 2015.
While John was searching for a new way to volunteer in his new town, he discovered the Temecula Sunrise Rotary Club. Soon after joining, he began taking his daughters with him to clean bus benches on Saturday mornings and even had the whole family volunteer at the annual Christmas Dinner in Old Town. Both of these events are projects of Temecula Sunrise.
Rotary club presidents often choose a new project for their clubs that are close to their hearts. As club president, John is very excited to partner with the Boys & Girls Club to bring the FIRST Lego League to Temecula Valley. John has been a league volunteer and coach for his daughter’s teams, Team Sparks and The Robo Pandas, for the last five years. He wants to expand the world of engineering, robotics and computer programming to children from all walks of life in the Temecula Valley and encourage them to dream big.
Joining John on the Temecula Sunrise Rotary Board of Directors this year are President-Elect Bob Davies, Immediate Past President Mark Sitar, Secretary Jean Weinfurter, Treasurer Tim Freese, Membership Director Jessica Christopher, Rotary Foundation Director Johnny Roberts, Public Relations Director Myra Allen, and Executive Secretary Marti Treckman.
