Temecula Community Services Department Earns Three ‘2018 Awards of Excellence’ from the California Park & Recreation Society

The City of Temecula earned three Awards of Excellence from the California Park & Recreation Society (CPRS) on Friday, March 22nd in Sacramento. City Council Member, Zak Schwank, and Community Services Manager, Jeff Lawrence, proudly accepted Temecula’s CPRS Awards which represent the pinnacle of state recognition for parks agencies.

City of Temecula Mayor Mike Naggar states, “Temecula’s commitment to providing the best quality of life for our citizens is just one of the many reasons we all LOVE Temecula. We are humbled to receive this state-wide recognition with three Awards of Excellence from the California Park & Recreation Society as we celebrate Temecula’s 30th year as one of the finest Cities in the State.”

CPRS presented awards in five categories: Creating Community Award of Excellence; Excellence in Design – Park Planning; Excellence in Design – Facility Design; Marketing & Communications Award of Excellence; and Professional & Service Awards. The City of Temecula earned Awards of Excellence in the following three categories: Marketing & Communications for Print Publication: Temecula’s Summer-Fall 2018 Activity Guide; Marketing & Communications for Digital Media – Video: Around & About Temecula Video Series (www.TemeculaCA.gov/AroundTemecula); and Creating Community for Economic Vitality: Temecula’s Global Citizens Viticulture & Horticulture Vocational Program.

According to Mayor Pro-Tem and Temecula Community Services District President James ‘Stew’ Stewart, “CPRS Awards of Excellence represent the highest recognition, our City can receive. These accolades are a direct result of Temecula’s exceptional public servants leading our Community Outreach, Human Services, and Recreation Divisions. We are very proud that our community’s achievements are represented among these extremely competitive categories. Congratulations to all!”

CPRS Executive Director Stephanie Stephens states, “These agencies represent the finest in initiatives addressing community issues, recreation programming, park planning, facility design, and marketing and communications in California. Park and recreation agencies throughout the state provide families, individuals, and groups access to the serenity and inspiration of nature; spaces and places for play and exercise; opportunities for directed and self-directed recreation; positive alternatives for youth to reduce crime and mischief; and activities that facilitate social connections, human development, therapy, the arts, and lifelong learning. Created in 1946, CPRS provide leadership and resources to promote the role of parks and recreation in creating community through people, parks and programs. CPRS is a membership organization with just over 4,000 members representing the 535 local parks and recreation agencies throughout the state.
