Congressman Ken Calvert Announces Temecula to Receive $50 Million for Interstate 15 Project

Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) announced that the city of Temecula will be receiving a $50 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to improve the Interstate 15 freeway and the French Valley Parkway interchange. Rep. Calvert has advocated for the project, along with the City of Temecula.

“Today’s announced award to Temecula will provide desperately needed resources for a critical congestion relief project along the Interstate 15 corridor in Temecula Valley,” said Rep. Calvert. “The people who commute on the 15 and 215 experience the traffic throughout the Temecula corridor every day and are looking for solutions like this project to become a reality. I’ve been proud to work with Temecula officials to advocate for this project and ensure the folks at the Department of Transportation understand why it’s needed. I truly appreciate Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao’s decision to award the grant and for all the time she took with me to understand the challenges in our region.”

“On behalf of the City of Temecula, and truly Southern California, I would like to convey my sincere appreciation to Congressman Ken Calvert representing the 42nd District (CA) for his efforts in bringing traffic infrastructure solutions to Interstate 15,” said Temecula Mayor Mike Naggar. “His unwavering support for the City’s application to the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) for $50,000,000 to complete French Valley Interchange Phase II, will significantly help address the daily congestion along Northbound I-15.

Mr. Calvert has been on this journey with the City of Temecula from the beginning. This nationwide competitive grant, and today’s award announcement, would not have been possible without Congressman Calvert’s focus, priority and attention as well as the proactive efforts of my colleague Temecula Council Member Matt Rahn and City Manager Aaron Adams, and collective efforts of City staff, region and local community. With today’s great news, we express our thanks to all those who lent their support to this effort, from a grateful City.”

On February 14, 2019, Rep. Calvert sent a letter to Secretary Chao in support of Temecula’s grant application to the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant program. The application specifically requested $50 million for Interstate 15/French Valley Parkway – Phase II to correct a bottleneck point on Interstate 15 near the 215 Junction. In addition to the letter, Rep. Calvert directly communicated the importance of the project to Secretary Chao by phone.
