EVMWD Awarded Top Workplace in Inland Empire. General Manager Reflects on the Inland News Group’s Recognition
When individuals think of “top workplaces”, a variety of images come to mind—flexible schedules, casual Fridays, retirement funds, or even an office snack bar. But while these perks are great, we believe it is something greater that sets a company apart. At Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District (EVMWD), it is the commitment of skilled staff who are passionate about what they do and excited to make a difference in their community.
Our employees play a crucial role in ensuring safe, reliable drinking water supplies and efficient wastewater treatment. Operations staff work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure our system is functioning properly and water meets all state and federal safety standards. Engineers, administrative professionals, customer service representatives, and numerous different roles work together to meet current and future needs while providing outstanding customer service.
But they don’t stop there. Throughout the past year, EVMWD employees found countless ways to go above and beyond their typical duties. As COVID-19 first began to impact our community, several employees worked with their families to sew and distribute cloth face masks. One employee made over 200 masks with the help of her mother, standing in line at 7 AM to purchase material and using her free time to sew. These masks were donated to EVMWD staff, local hospitals, and friends at no cost.
Nearly 50% of employees made voluntary contributions throughout the year to fund an Adopt-A-Family program, partnering with Lake Elsinore Unified School District to identify families in need. Funds were used to purchase gifts for local families who faced illness, loss, or extreme need. Staff generously gave their personal time and resources, all for the sake of bringing joy to fellow community members.
We could go on and on about the amazing work EVMWD employees do. After a rough year that challenged many of us beyond our imaginations, we are left with one lingering emotion above all the rest: gratitude. We are grateful for the hard work, dedication, and expertise of our staff. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our wonderful customers in the Elsinore Valley region through our role as their water provider. And finally, we are grateful for the honor of being named a 2020 Top Workplace.
As we enter 2021, we look forward to continuing to provide a workplace that attracts and retains skilled professionals. It is a privilege to call these many talented individuals our EVMWD family.
