Starting January 1, 2025, California’s new AB 413 Daylighting Law took effect to help prevent accidents and save lives by increasing visibility at intersections. Here’s what you need to know:
What’s Changing?
No more parking within 20 feet of any marked or unmarked crosswalk. This law applies to all intersections statewide, even if no red curb or parking signs are visible.
Why It Matters!
This law helps drivers see pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users more clearly, reducing accidents and making streets safer for everyone.

Key Dates to Remember:
• Warnings only for the first 60 days.
• $65 fine (plus $12.50 admin fee) starting March 1, 2025 for violations.
The law aims to clear about 1.5 car lengths at intersections to boost visibility — studies show this significantly reduces pedestrian accidents.
Stay safe and keep the intersections clear!
