Elevate Your Restaurant’s Outdoor Experience
Big Fogg offers high-quality misting systems and fans that can turn your restaurant patio into a cool, comfortable dining space—perfect for even the hottest summer days.
High-Pressure Misting Systems and Fans
Big Fogg’s high-pressure misting systems and fans are designed to provide optimal comfort for your guests. Operating at 1,000 PSI, these systems release an ultra-fine mist that evaporates instantly, cooling the air by up to 25 degrees. This evaporative cooling process ensures your guests remain refreshed and dry, making your outdoor dining area a go-to destination, even in the peak of summer heat.
Ease of Installation and Maintenance
Our misting systems can be installed along ceilings or shade structures, saving valuable floor space while ensuring your patio is cool and inviting. Additionally, Big Fogg offers wall-mounted and portable misting fans for targeted cooling, allowing you to place them wherever needed to maximize comfort.
Installation is simple: we only require access to a water source, electricity, and space for the pump. Our systems are installed by Big Fogg’s skilled technicians or through our trusted nationwide network of contractors, ensuring consistent support for your restaurant chain wherever you’re located.
Maintenance is straightforward. Made from durable stainless steel and other high-quality materials, Big Fogg misting systems are built for long-lasting performance. While mineral deposits may accumulate on nozzles over time, they can be easily cleaned with household vinegar or calcium removers. Periodic nozzle replacement will keep your system running smoothly.

A Story Behind the Name: How Big Fogg Came to Be
The story of Big Fogg’s name and trademark is as unique as the company itself. Founded by CEO Christopher Miehl in 1999, Big Fogg emerged from the remnants of a previous venture, Cool Zone, which Miehl helped establish in the 1990s. Cool Zone became a pioneer in placing misting fans at high-profile events, such as the 1994 World Cup, the 1996 Olympics, and Woodstock ’99, among others.
However, after a series of mismanagement issues and the company’s bankruptcy, Miehl set out to create a new company grounded in the principles of the original Cool Zone, but without the involvement of venture capital or partners. Starting with just 50 cents and $5,000 in credit card debt, Miehl launched Big Fogg in 2000.
The name “Big Fogg” came to Miehl during a moment of clarity after a late-night concert. The next morning, tired from the late night, Miehl described his state as being in a “Big Fogg,” and the name stuck. After a cup of coffee and a shower, he was sure: his new company would be called Big Fogg. The detail is described below of the background of how the name came into mainstream.
In 1996, investment bankers purchased a majority stake in Cool Zone, intending to grow it into a multimillion-dollar business. However, their management struggled to run the company effectively, and by 1999, Cool Zone filed for bankruptcy. That year, the company’s operations were relocated to Las Vegas in an effort to avoid ongoing disputes with former employees and vendors.
Christopher Miehl, the only original founding member still employed at Cool Zone, moved to Las Vegas in June 1999 to try to save the company. Despite his efforts, the business remained in turmoil, facing multiple lawsuits and financial challenges. By the end of 1999, Miehl left to pursue a new venture based on the original ideals of Cool Zone, but without outside investors or partners. When Miehl left Cool Zone, he was still owed unpaid compensation, which he never received. He started his new company with just $0.50 in cash and $5,000 in credit card debt. In January 2000, he returned to San Diego, rented a room in a friend’s house, and began building his business.
Finding a name for the new venture is a cool story; Miehl wanted to avoid anything similar to Cool Zone, dismissing suggestions like “Chill Zone.” One evening, he attended a concert by the New Jersey rock band The Smithereens at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach. The concert started late, around 10:00 PM, and went on until nearly 2:00 AM. Afterward, Miehl and a friend walked home, making it a very long night.
The next morning, Miehl woke up tired and in a fog, lying on a sleeping bag in a den. Feeling the effects of the previous night, he stepped out and was greeted by his friend, who remarked on how rough he looked. In response, Miehl joked about feeling mentally cloudy, saying his head was “in a big fog.” At that moment, inspiration struck: Big Fogg was the perfect name for his new company.
After some coffee and a much-needed shower, Miehl decided to move forward with the name. From that moment, “Big Fogg” became the foundation for his new venture, and the rest is history.
