If there’s one thing we know in Southwest Riverside County, it’s that small businesses aren’t just a part of our community—they are the community. They are the visionaries, the job creators, and the ones who take the risks to turn dreams into reality. When we talk about economic growth, innovation, and resilience, we’re really talking about them.
At the Murrieta/Wildomar Chamber of Commerce, we see firsthand how small businesses shape our region. They bring character to our neighborhoods and fuel local job growth, yet, they often face an uphill battle—rising costs, workforce challenges, regulatory hurdles, and the ever-changing demands of a competitive marketplace.
That’s where we come in. Our mission is clear: to champion business, convene leaders and ideas, and be the driving force for economic growth. That means actively supporting our small businesses with the tools, advocacy, and connections they need to thrive.
It’s easy to think of small businesses as just “mom-and-pop shops,” but their impact is anything but small. Nationwide, they account for nearly half of all private-sector jobs and play a critical role in innovation and economic dynamism. In fact, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration, small businesses create 62% of net new jobs in the country. Locally, they create opportunities for families, foster entrepreneurship, and keep more dollars circulating in our economy.
When you shop at a locally owned business, more of your money stays right here—supporting schools, infrastructure, and other essential services. Research shows that for every $100 spent at a local business, approximately $68 stays in the community, compared to just $43 when spent at a national chain. It’s an investment in our shared future. But supporting small businesses isn’t just about where we spend our dollars; it’s also about ensuring they have the right environment to grow and succeed.
At the Murrieta/Wildomar Chamber, we take a proactive approach to fostering a strong business ecosystem. We provide educational resources, networking opportunities, and direct advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels. But most importantly, we listen. Through surveys, roundtables, and direct engagement, we ensure that the needs of our small business community are heard and addressed.
Supporting small businesses is a collective effort. Here’s how you can contribute:
- Shop Local – Prioritize spending at locally owned businesses whenever possible.
- Engage with the Chamber – If you’re a business owner, take advantage of our resources. If you’re a resident, encourage local businesses to connect with us.
- Be an Advocate – Speak up for policies that help small businesses thrive, whether that’s reducing regulatory burdens, improving infrastructure, or supporting workforce development.
- Spread the Word – A simple review, social media share, or referral can make a big difference for a small business.
At the end of the day, small businesses are more than just storefronts or service providers. They are our neighbors, our friends, and the heartbeat of our community. And when they succeed, we all succeed.
Let’s continue to build a business-friendly region where small businesses don’t just survive but thrive. The Murrieta/Wildomar Chamber of Commerce is committed to making that happen—and we invite you to join us in that mission.
