Murrieta residents are advised to take steps now to safeguard their homes as low rainfall and dry conditions could make for a tenuous wildfire season in our region. A dry winter throughout California has Murrieta Fire Officials concerned that the 2013 wildfire season could arrive early.
Murrieta recently initiated its annual weed abatement program in preparation of the upcoming fire season. Residents and business owners are asked to clear brush and combustible materials from around their homes and businesses. Firefighters need 100′ of “defensible space” around structures to help protect fire threatened structures in the event of a catastrophic wildland fire in the area.
The three essential ingredients that create dangerous fire weather include increased temperatures, lower humidity and higher wind speed. These three conditions, coupled with our dry vegetation creates the recipe for disaster.
As we move towards summer, please be cautious with smoking materials, spark producing tools and BBQ grills; leave the fireworks to the professionals. Don’t give fire a place to start!
