Local Wounded Marine Corporal Receives Generous Donation

Corporal Jon Schumacher left the Marine Corp at the end of June and his family has chosen Temecula to make their home. Jon is a triple amputee after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan in October, 2011. After approximately 100 surgeries to repair the damage, he is learning to walk using prosthetic legs. When Walt Allen of the Rotary Club’s Military Support Committee learned of the needs of this family, he contacted Jeff Conner at Pacific Mobility in San Marcos to see if they could help.

Pacific Mobility has a long relationship with the military, and according to owner and President Jeff Conner they unfortunately learn of these kind of needs much too often. Jeff knew he wanted to help so he contacted Bruno Independent Living Aids, Inc., who they have done business with since 1986. Bruno is a family owned company, a leading manufacturer of Stair Lifts based in Oconomowoc, WI. When owner Mike Bruno heard Corporal Schumacher’s story he agreed they had to help.

On Wednesday June 19th the donated two stage stair lift was installed in Schumacher’s home. In addition, Pacific Mobility installed donated grab bars and other equipment in the bathrooms and shower to help Jon gain as much freedom as possible. Supervising the project was Mark Holat, the West Coast territory sales manager for Bruno, as well as many members of the Temecula Rotary Club who quickly adopted this family.

Since opening their business, Pacific Mobility has provided equipment for veterans on a regular basis and decided to step up to help during this transition period for Corporal Schumacher. Mr. Conner said “it’s an honor to give back to those who have made great sacrifices for our freedoms in the US.” He finds it rewarding, uplifting and inspirational to be part of this kind of project.
