The Valley Business Journal Welcomes Avants

The Valley Business Journal is pleased to announce that Maggie Avants has joined their staff after most recently serving as the editor of a local news website for more than three years.

A transplant from Northern Arizona to San Diego, she has resided in Murrieta with her husband and their two daughters since 2004.

Juggling motherhood and various clerical jobs, Maggie decided to return to school in her 30s to pursue her longtime goal of becoming a trained journalist. She attended Mt. San Jacinto College’s Menifee campus part-time until she transferred to Palomar College in San Marcos for its journalism program.

In 2010, Maggie was named Palomar’s ‘Distinguished Journalist of the Year’ for her work with the campus newspaper, The Telescope. She earned her associate’s degree that same year.

In addition to her previous work editing and writing for Murrieta and Temecula Patch websites, Maggie formerly contributed to another local newspaper and an online news network.

“I am happy to have the opportunity to work with Maggie as I have long admired her quality work,” said Linda Wunderlich, Publisher.

To The Valley Business Journal she brings the desire to continue reporting on issues affecting her local community and the people who live and do business here. She hopes to provide interesting stories that are relevant to this bustling microcosm of commerce we call southwest Riverside County. Reach her via e-mail at maggie_avants@yahoo.com
