EVMWD Wins Two Recognized Awards for Budget Excellence

In recognition of its continuing adherence to the best budgeting practices, Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District (EVMWD) has been awarded two nationally recognized awards for budget excellence.

EVMWD received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the seventh consecutive time. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the highest form of recognition for governmental budgeting. The award is granted for a period of two years, after which time the recipient must submit its budget for another review by GFOA’s panel of judges.

EVMWD has also received the Operating Budget Excellence Award from the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers (CSMFO) for the fifth consecutive time over nine years, distinguishing the district as having met the criteria for excellence as set by the statewide organization.

“We are always striving to strengthen our budgeting practices to remain transparent and accountable to the customers we serve,” said Andy Morris, president of the EVMWD board of directors. “Our budget and other financial documents are made publically-accessible through our web site and give a clear picture of how every dollar is being used.”

In order to be selected for these awards, a governmental entity must demonstrate that their published budget document meets the highest standards possible for comprehensiveness and transparency. Additionally, the budget document must not only serve as a financial plan, but also as a policy document, operations guide, and a communications device.
