Donations from the City of Temecula and the Rotary Club of Temecula have made it possible for The WAVES Project to provide SCUBA training to wounded American Veterans. Each Veteran and a “buddy” of their choice will participate in the training which includes some classroom work as well as time spent in a pool, then on to the ocean for “open water dives”.
The program is free to the veteran and their “buddy” and includes instruction, equipment needed to complete the training and local dive travel. The WAVES Project instructors have been trained by PADI – the Professional Association of Diving Instructors as well as specialized training by HSA – Handicap Scuba Association. Training is available to all ranges of combat injuries including, but not limited to: traumatic amputations, post traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, and paralysis.
Funding is available immediately for Temecula Residents as well as those living in the greater Temecula Valley. All interested Veterans or their caregivers should contact Steve Rubin at 951-308-0049 or by email Steve@wavesproject.org.
The Waves Project is a California Non-Profit Corporation, established to provide an opportunity for Combat Wounded American Veterans and their families to experience scuba diving. Scuba diving can help the wounded warrior by promoting independence and self-confidence in many ways.
Their Motto is RECOVER – Through Adventure, DISCOVER – Our Underwater World, REBUILD – Families & Relationships. For more information on The WAVES Project please visit www.wavesproject.org
