Murrieta Rotary Honors Dozier and Palmer

By Valley Business Journal

While accepting International and District honors, Rotary Club of Murrieta President (2013-14) Patsy Orr presented special honors to two members.

Linda Dozier, public relations director, was selected by the club’s membership as “Rotarian of the Year,” and Pete Palmer, a club past president, was presented a special “Service Above Self” award by Orr.

Dozier, a retired public relations/corporate communications consultant, has been a member of the Murrieta club since Nov. 2011 and served as editor of the organization’s weekly bulletin, in addition heading public relations for the annual Field of Honor. In 2013 she received a “The Inspirational Award” because she carried out these responsibilities while being treated for multiple myeloma. In the new 2014-15 Rotary year, she will again serve as public relations director.

Palmer, a principal in PKC Accountancy, APC firm, served as treasurer last year, has been chair of the “Murrieta Through Time” project, and has overseen Field of Honor booth staffing, accounting for the 2000-plus flags on display and receipts. He will again serve the club as treasurer this new Rotary club year.

“Our club had a wonderful and award-winning year, thanks to the remarkable efforts of our 50 members who have the motto ‘Service Above Self’ in their hearts,” Orr said. “And it is especially true of these two ‘special’ Rotarians.”

Orr said the club received the President’s Citation from Rotary International (RI) for meeting goals set for 2013-14, a special citation for achievement from the District 5330, and also recognized by the district in all areas of Rotary service – community, international, vocational and youth.

The new Rotary year began July 1, with Craig Carper becoming club president; Al Vollbrecht, president-elect, and Mike Stromsoe, president nominee. Patsy Orr becomes past president, with George Steele, secretary, and Palmer, treasurer.

Directors are: Club Administration, Vickie Ashmore; Foundation, Stromsoe; Membership, Bob Brown; Public Relations, Linda Dozier, and Service, LouEllen Ficke.

Service chairs are: Community Service, Roxanne Schuleuniger; International Service, Don Lunday; Vocational Service, Laurel Miller, and Youth Service, Jill Hardy. Field of Honor committee chair is Bob Bryant.
