Assistance League of Temecula Valley has been awarded $5,000 by the Southern California Edison Company. The award directly funds Assistance League’s main philanthropic program, Operation School Bell.
The Operation School Bell program supplies new school clothing to disadvantaged schoolchildren within the Lake Elsinore, Murrieta Valley and Temecula Valley Unified School Districts and within the Menifee Union School District. These school districts identify and direct qualified low income schoolchildren to the program. Children and their families attend local “shopping events” at the store locations of major retailers and each child receives $125 in new school clothing and shoes.
“Southern California Edison is thrilled to support organizations in the community like Assistance League of Temecula Valley, an organization that does so much for so many here in the Temecula Valley.” said Jeremy Goldman, Region Manager – Local Public Affairs. “SCE looks forward to continuing this long-standing partnership.”
During the 2013-2014 school year, Operation School Bell provided new school clothing to 1,812 disadvantaged schoolchildren in the region. The goal is to provide clothing to 2,000 children during the “shopping events” in September and October. Assistance League is celebrating its 25th anniversary serving families through its philanthropic programs. During that time, Operation School Bell has provided new school clothes to over 26,000 students.
“Southern California Edison’s generous support of the Operation School Bell program benefits many local schoolchildren who might otherwise attend school without adequate clothing,” said Assistance League President Sue Sampson.
