Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District hosts the 4th Annual Splash Into Spring Water Festival on Saturday March 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its headquarters, located at 31315 Chaney Street in Lake Elsinore. At this free community event, attendees will learn about the process EVMWD uses to treat more than 5.5 million gallons of sewer water per day, the construction and maintenance of over 700 miles of pipeline throughout the EVMWD service area, and saving money and water with a more water efficient home and landscape.
EVMWD staff share their daily work at the district through a variety of demonstrations and interactive displays. Activities included fixing a leaky water main, performing a valve exercise, cleaning up a polluted watershed and exploring pipes with robotics and video cameras. A crowd favorite is a tour of the facility’s sewer treatment plant, where visitors take a journey through the plant to see how waste water becomes recycled water.
Activities for the day also include a visit from the Lake Elsinore Storm’s Thunder Dog and the Lake Elsinore/ San Jacinto Watershed Authority’s Bessie the Bass. The Lake Elsinore Sherriff and American Medical Response will be on hand with emergency vehicles for children to explore. Southern California Edison will bring the Mobile Energy Efficiency Unit, emphasizing the importance of water and energy conservation. Tours of the recently installed EVMWD Temescal Gardens at the headquarters are also a highlight of the event, giving visitors an idea of how beautiful a water efficient landscape can be.
Landscape and irrigation experts, University of California Riverside Master Gardeners, local nurseries and home improvement stores will be on hand to answer questions about outdoor irrigation, California-Friendly plants, gardening and water saving appliances and devices. EVMWD will also raffle off water saving items throughout the day.
