The Teachers are Heroes recognition program acknowledges outstanding educators who have helped make the world a better place for their students and their schools by going far beyond what is asked of them as education professionals. On January 29th, representatives from KATY- 101.3 The Mix (KATY) and Azusa Pacific University (APU) presented Daniel Terriquez with the January ‘Teachers are Heroes’ award. Terriquez was very surprised to receive this honor and acknowledged the teacher aides that also help out in his classroom.
Terriquez has been a teacher at Bautista Creek Elementary School in Hemet for the past three years. He teaches students in multiple grades with special needs. In addition, he has worked with Bautista Creek English Learners through an after school language arts class.
Mr. Terriquez has also led the charge in the creation of the Bautista Creek “Kool Kubs” program which partners students with special needs and general education students together to increase social skills and the formation of friendships for all of the students. Principal Kristi Watson said, “Mr. Terriquez is an outstanding staff member who goes above and beyond in making a difference in our students’ lives every day.”
The Teachers are Heroes program, which is sponsored by KATY and Azusa Pacific University, is one way to honor such deserving teachers as Mr. Terriquez. The ‘Teachers are Heroes’ program will run through April. Teachers may be nominated by students, parents, and even other school administrators.
All selected teachers and their classes receive a pizza party from The Pizza Factory in Temecula and will be invited to attend a private celebration at the end of the year at the Lake Elsinore Storm Stadium.
