Good teachers are invaluable to a child’s education and Azusa Pacific University (APU) and KATY – 101.3 The Mix (KATY) enjoys the opportunity to recognize the work it takes to become a teacher worthy of distinction. On Thursday, March 26, 2015, representatives from APU and KATY presented Michelle Ott, a 4th grade teacher at Megan Cope Elementary School in San Jacinto, with the March Teachers are Heroes Award.
April Largaespada, a student’s parent, nominated Ott and said, “She makes learning fun for all kids. If there’s an area your child does not understand she takes the time to make sure your child gets that one on one time they need with tutoring.”
Ott has been teaching 4th grade in the San Jacinto Unified School District for the past 9 years. Her other responsibilities at Megan Cope Elementary includes serving as the Grade Level Chair for 4th grade and as the Site Testing Resource Teacher who is responsible for organizing all district and state testing.
Ott’s teaching strategies and knowledge ensure student success. She achieves high student engagement, establishes close relationships with students and families, dedicates extra time to tutoring students after school, and uses a variety of instructional strategies based on the different learning styles of her students. She has the belief that every student will be successful and is dedicated to ensuring that happen. Her class consistently scores high on all assessments because of her dedication to success. She truly has the “Whatever It Takes” attitude not only with her
own students but with every child that attends Megan Cope Elementary School.
Ott received several prizes from KATY and APU. Ott and previous award recipients including their classes are invited to attend a special Teachers are Heroes celebration at the Lake Elsinore Storm Stadium on Wednesday, May 20th.
