Adrienne Van Wagoner Named First Recipient of 2016-2017 Teachers Are Heroes Award

The Azusa Pacific University (APU) Murrieta Regional Campus is launching their fourth year celebrating Teachers are Heroes. With local radio station, KATY – 101.3 The Mix (KATY) teachers throughout Southwest Riverside County are being recognized for their great contributions to children and families. APU and KATY are happy to announce the first Teachers are Heroes recipient for 2016- 2017, Ms. Adrienne Van Wagoner, a math teacher at Dartmouth Middle School in Hemet.

On Tuesday, September 20th, Dartmouth Middle School Assistant Principals Angela Rackovan and Greg White joined Van Wagoner’s students cheer on their teacher as KATY and APU representatives presented her with the September Teachers are Heroes award. Van Wagoner was also presented with some special prizes from The Mix Prize Closet.  Following the presentation, the students enjoyed a pizza party provided by the Temecula Pizza Factory.

The award nominator wrote, “Adrienne likes and believes in her kids and makes them passionate about math.”  Van Wagoner has been a math teacher for 6th, 7th and 8th grades for 20 years at Dartmouth Middle School.  In addition, she has run the MathCounts program at Dartmouth Middle School for 17 years.

If you know a teacher or teachers who goes above and beyond then please nominate them for the Teachers are Heroes award.   Teachers may be nominated by students, parents, and even other school administrators. All selected teachers and their classes will attend a private celebration at the end of the year at the Lake Elsinore Storm Stadium.
