Chris Bylin, 7th grade history teacher and the Associated Student Body Advisor at Tomas Rivera Middle School in Perris, received a nice surprise when he was named the October Teachers are Heroes recipient.
On Tuesday, November 1, 2016, Azusa Pacific University and KATY 101.3, The Mix, made a special visit to Tomas Rivera Middle School and presented Bylin with the Teacher Are Heroes award as well as prizes from KATY’s The Mix Prize Closet. Following the presentation, The Temecula Pizza Factory provided a pizza party for Bylin’s students.
Bylin was nominated by Monica Ramirez, a parent of one of Bylin’s former students. Ramirez also has two nieces that are currently in Bylin’s history class. Ramirez said about him, “He is an awesome teacher who takes the time to teach his students history. He has been a teacher for many years and is always available for students and parents. He has the greatest attitude even after so many years of teaching. He has inspired students to become teachers.”
Bylin started teaching at Tomas Rivera Middle School a month after the school opened in 1993. He has been teaching for 24 years! One of Bylin’s former students is now a teacher at Tomas Rivera Middle School and another one of Bylin’s former students is an Assistant Principal in the Val Verde Unified School District.
The Teachers are Heroes program will run through April 2017. Teachers may be nominated by students, parents, and even other school administrators. All selected teachers and their classes will attend a private celebration at the end of the year at the Lake Elsinore Storm Stadium.
