“Blue Light” Special

When it comes to aging we know the sun is UVA and UVB rays are to blame for sun burns, age spots and wrinkles. But as the skin care world progresses we are learning that there are more factors contributing to aging than we thought. One of them being the phones and computers we’re in front of every day.

You may have heard about “blue light” from our tablets, phones, and computers. We know it can disrupt our sleep but we’re realizing it can also age our skin. Everyone is exposed to blue light, which comes from the sun just as UVA and UVB rays. However, it’s the growing exposure to digital devices that has researchers noticing the potential skin damage blue light can cause.

High-energy visible (HEV) light penetrates much further into your skin than the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. UVB penetrates the first layers of your skin, the epidermis, and burns the skin. UVA ages by producing wrinkles, sagging, age spots, and skin cancer.  Blue light reaches all the way down to the bottom of the second layer of your skin, the dermis, and strikes the layers of skin containing the good stuff like collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. This means it is more destructive than UVB!

So how do we protect our skin from blue light? Normal broad spectrum sunscreen will only protect us from UVA and UVB rays. You need a new level of skin protection.

Murad has recently released their City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50 PA++++. This revolutionary, ultra-light 100% mineral sunscreen shields skin from 5 main causes of damage that accelerate signs of aging. These causes are blue light from devices, pollution, infrared radiation (i.e. your microwave), UVA, and UVB. It is lightweight formula that works well on all skin tones and absorbs quickly into the skin with no ashy residue unlike other mineral sunscreens. Also, it leaves a luminous, pearlized finish which works well under makeup or worn alone. This is amazing! We just started carrying this at Murrieta Day Spa and it has quickly become a favorite. Feel free to stop by and try a sample.

All of this time we thought if we wore our sunscreen or stayed indoors we’d be safe. Unfortunately, that’s no longer the case. It’s time to protect your skin from even more of those pesky causes of aging.
