Temecula Valley Hospital – A Special Giving

December is the season of giving. What could be more giving than the gift of life?

Temecula Valley Hospital is proud to be partnering with One Legacy in supporting a strong organ donation process. One Legacy is the non-profit organization in our area dedicated to their mission of saving and healing lives through organ and tissue donation, comforting the families they serve, and inspiring our community to Donate Life.

Stories of organ donation are often shared to stress the importance of how this vital decision can save many lives through the tragedy of a loved one’s passing. Two recent stories of the ultimate gift of life occurred at Temecula Valley Hospital.

In September, a young woman was admitted to the ICU at Temecula Valley Hospital after a serious injury. Unfortunately, the injuries she sustained led to the declaration of brain death. As a result of the family’s decision to honor their loved one through the gift of life, a man in his late 50’s, who had waited two years, received a left kidney; a gentleman in his mid-40’s, who was on the waiting list for four years, received a right kidney; and a young man in his mid-40’s, who had waited for 332 days, received a liver. Several other lives were improved through the donation of her heart valves.

In November, a woman in her mid-50’s was admitted to the ICU post cardiac arrest and was declared brain dead. Her life was honored with the donation of a heart, a left and right kidney, and a liver.  One of the donor recipients had been on the waiting list for over ten years. These gifts provided a second chance at life for numerous individuals.

It is only fitting at this time of year that Temecula Valley Hospital acknowledges the families of these generous donors and thank them for making the difficult decision to give the gift of life. We are honored and humbled by their courage. As a result of their giving, many donor recipients across the country will be celebrating their new lease on life with their families during this holiday season.
