“Not So Secret” Tips To Anti-Aging

by Monique deGroot

We all know you can’t stop time, but you can turn back the clock to achieve a more youthful you! You don’t need to get expensive surgery either. Just examine your everyday habits and make some simple tweaks.

Youthful hair has a bounce and shine to it. I am seeing a lot of dry and damaged hair from over use of curling and flat irons. Take a break twice a week and use a dry shampoo or wear a ponytail. You could also try a wet bun for a refreshing change.

Protecting your skin everyday with a moisturizer with SPF 30 is one of the most effective tools in your anti-aging arsenal. Use it on your hands too because the skin on the back of your hands is very thin, which makes it prone to accelerated aging compared with the rest of your body.

Paint your nails. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgery it’s not your face that reveals your age, it’s your hands. One trick is to wear nail polish along with jewelry. Polish offers a welcome distraction.

Limit foods that stain your teeth, you know the ones we can’t live without…coffee & red wine. White teeth are seen as a sign of good health so get your teeth whitened. “Studies have shown that a brighter smile can lessen your age by up to 10 years,” says Dr. Roger Thai, Dental Director at the California Health and Longevity Institute.

Eat your greens. Greens are nature’s natural toothbrush. Fiber rich veggies like spinach, lettuce and broccoli help naturally clean teeth. Their fiber can prevent plaque from sticking to enamel.

Exercise regularly. Exercise improves healthy circulation which allows skin to look its best. Plus a new study found that when you’re in shape, you naturally look younger.

Get enough sleep. During sleep, the body produces greater quantities of estrogen and progesterone. These boast your skins natural repair mechanisms, so you look more radiant when you wake up.

Watch your sodium intake. Eating salty foods can make you retain water, resulting in a puffy look, especially the area below your eyes. Salt lurks everywhere-bread, cereal, sauces, deli meats, even some sweet baked goods are loaded with it so check labels often.
