By Helen M. Ryan

Sit back in a loveseat rocker, put your feet up, and just have a laugh. Comedy has arrived in Murrieta, and fun times await you.

The droves of people who show up at Aces Comedy Club in Murrieta show a need to laugh, let loose and just have fun. Top notch comics take to the stage at this unusual club that brings much needed laughter-induced endorphins to our valley.

Rocky Osborn is the owner of Aces Comedy Club, located conveniently off the 215 freeway and Los Alamos Road in the “furniture row” section of town. A comic himself, Osborn found it difficult to find local places to perform his comedic arts before starting his own venture. “It was just always tough. You always had to drive to L.A. or to San Diego, or somewhere else.”

Opening the comedy club in late April with his business partner Kim May, after arranging a string of comedy fundraisers for nonprofits at various restaurants throughout the area, proved to be a smart move. The timing was right to bring an easy-to-get-to comedy shop locally, and there’s no shortage of famous talent ready and willing to make us laugh. “We make sure that everybody that comes to a show sees the best show that they’ve ever seen,” says Osborne. “All people need to know is that every week at Aces Comedy Club, it’s a good week.” Vince Morris was a recent performer, as were the Funniest Housewives of Orange County. In August Jimmy “JJ” Walker from “Good Times,” will perform as part of an All-Star Lineup that month. There won’t be a dry eye left in the house.

Added to the traditional seating of tables and chairs are comfortable lounge chairs and sofas, supplying a unique touch to the club. Osborn also takes his club back to comedy club roots with three or four excellent comedians each night, making sure you get a good, solid show that’s not too long and not too short. “The show doesn’t run two or three hours. You’re not watching fifteen people like a lot of other clubs. Your headliner is on stage giving you a good 40-45 minute show, with a few other quality comedians adding to it.”

“I think it’s important that people know that this is a comedy club being run by a comedian, not somebody that doesn’t know the business,” notes Osborne. “The comics are very well received, and they are all interested in coming here.”
