Harvest/Holiday Décor

Mike Ohrberg - Habitatby Mike Ohrberg

Autumn is here! You’ve probably noticed that many retail stores are already displaying holiday décor or collectibles. If you are the type that likes to decorate your home to match the season or weather, skip those expensive stores and save time, money and the planet by purchasing your Harvest, Halloween and/or Holiday décor at the Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley ReStore. We’ve compiled a few budget-saving decorating ideas that we hope will get you into the spirit of home holiday decorating.

  • Small Idea. Big Impact. Throw pillows are easily overlooked as a major decorating component. You would be surprised at the difference a few new pillows can make to the entire look of a room. If you want to celebrate a holiday through your home decorating, consider black and orange pillows for Halloween or red and green for Christmas. If these colors are too daring, choose pillows that reflect the fall season in colors like green, brown, yellow and red.
  • Fruit and veggies make more than just a healthy meal. Another fun way to give your home a subtle makeover is to have a basket full of in-season fruits and veggies on the dining room table or kitchen counter. This is a great way to liven up any kitchen while feeding your family their favorite in-season foods.
  • Light it Up! Use holiday or string lights and garland to create a themed or intimate ambiance.
  • Wall & Door Art. Spice up your autumn décor with new wall art or wreaths for both the interior and exterior of your home.
  • Haunted House. Shop the Restore for inexpensive and unique items to decorate a Halloween scene or a haunted house.
  • Keep your Pumpkins. We know that pumpkins don’t last forever. But, they usually will last long after the kids have polished off that bag of candy. Keep your pumpkins and use to decorate on end tables, on your kitchen counter or inside a windowed cabinet. Reuse your hallowed out pumpkin as a creative vase for your Thanksgiving arrangement. No matter how large or small your decorating project is, be sure to start with a budget, start small and get your family involved. Decorating your home for the holiday is a great way to get the family together, spend more and enjoy one another. Some of the items mentioned in this article can be purchased at one of the Habitat for Humanity ReStores located in Temecula and Lake Elsinore. We also offer materials for larger decorating projects like paint, furniture and appliances.
