About 20 California Real Estate Inspection Association (CREIA) Inspectors from the North County San Diego/Temecula Valley Chapter took part in a ½ day of field education called a “Toolbox”. The purpose of this type of training is to provide inspectors with practical training in a real-life situation. The Toolbox was held at a 1930’s home in the University Heights neighborhood of San Diego. Taught by Master CREIA Inspectors, Steve Stenros, Steven Dehlinger and Gary Vincent, the training included an inspection of all the major systems of the home; including roof, electric, plumbing, heating, doors and windows. There was plenty of opportunity for discussion as defects and deficiencies were revealed to the group. “Nothing can replace the value of hands-on learning in this profession”, said Bob Waysack, CCI, President.
Established in 1976, CREIA is a non-profit trade association, with chapters located throughout the state. CREIA and ASHI are the most reputable professional, non-profit, voluntary certification organizations for home inspectors in California. Home inspectors who voluntarily certify through CREIA and ASHI subscribe to a high set of standards that leads the home inspection industry throughout the nation. CREIA Certified Inspectors (CCI’s) must pass a technically rigorous examination process and must maintain their certification status with 30 hours of continuing education every year.
Other elected officers for 2013-2014 include: Jeff Ermis, CCI, Vice President; Fred Schneider, CCI, Treasurer; Craig Russell, CCI, Secretary. For further information about CREIA, please visit the website at www.creia.org
