2024 Tech Gift Ideas

Presents and pine cones on background

Each year the tech industry provides consumers with a long list of gift ideas.  The number of choices can be overwhelming so I’ve categorized some of the fasted growing technologies.

Solar powered.  Small panels that can be easily packed and transported are now attached to most any device requiring power.  For example, a solar powered oven can be used on a picnic or camping trip to prepare your favorite hot meal.  Use them to bake, slow-cook, dehydrate or most any task completed in your own kitchen.  Solar powered lanterns aren’t just flashlights but can be used to light up a campsite, backyard or other area where temporary lighting is required.  Solar powered generators and chargers are especially useful when away from a power source and need to recharge your phone or other portable device.  Power storage banks come in all sizes that can be used in emergencies.

Personal Gaming.  These handheld devices can satisfy even the most serious gamer when away from their computer.  They come with the ability to connect to the home server or communicate with other controllers for group gaming.  For the retro fan, there are consoles containing the old-style arcade games.  These devices are perfect for long trips or just getting away from the big screen to a different surrounding.

Anything “smart” or wireless.  There are many devices like wall plugs and light bulbs that can be controlled by your phone or service like Alexa.  Security systems have become smart allowing monitoring and controlling away from home.  There are wireless chargers to keep your phone charged without having to think about it.  A smart speaker will not only let you listen to your favorite music but lets you talk to it and manage your other smart devices.

Workout devices.  Smart home gyms help provide the most efficient workout designed for you.  Apps are available to monitor and track how well you are doing through the day by counting steps, watching your vitals and making recommendations for improvement.  Wearables will do the same and not require a smart phone.  At the end of the day you can step on your wi-fi connected scale and send your current data back to your devices to check progress.

The choices are many so start early.  Perhaps next year they will come up with a tech device to do the shopping for you.
