The “latest” tech gadget list gets longer each year. It used to be all about new laptops or personal computers and accessories. But tech gadgetry keeps on growing. So rather than highlight a few individual products here is a categorized list to help start your shopping.
Streaming consoles – These are devices that play games, DVDs, host music and can interface with services such as Netflix, Hula and RedBox. Products such as Sony’s PS 3/4, Microsoft’s Xbox One and Roku give you many choices for functionality and price.
Cameras – Of course there are still many to choose from, but this year consider an “action video” camera. They can be strapped onto just about anywhere to capture a bike ride, ski run or even a wave while out surfing. GoPro is a well-known name but others including Sony, Toshiba and Panasonic have entries in the market.
Mini Scanners and Printers – As the mobile population grows so does the need for small portable printers. Even more practical are hand-held scanners for inputting data direct to your phone or tablet. Either would make an excellent gift.
Fitness Assistants – There are variety of devices to help with your workouts and track your progress. Kits from Nike can turn your Apple product into a monitoring device. Others allow you to take music into the pool with you to assist with your workout. The Fitbit Flex will track your steps, calories burned and other metrics and report them back to you.
Headphones – A good set of headphones will make a great gift for the music lover. Beside great sound many offer a noise canceling features along with wireless connectivity.
Charging Devices – For the practical gift there is a host of these available. Some are made to charge multiple USB devices at once while plugged into the wall, in your car or your computer. “Chargecard” is a new and unique adapter on the market today. It’s the size of a credit card and fits in your wallet. When needed, it untwists to allow you to charge your tablet smartphone or other portable device.
Tablets – The latest models have better resolutions and increased storage capabilities allowing for more app downloads and storing of pictures and music.
Ultra-light Laptops – If you still want to give a computer, consider the ultra-light class. To compete with the tablet market, this new breed of laptops is getting thinner and lighter. Each of the major manufacturers has models to choose from, some even with a removable screen which transform to a tablet.
Smart Watches – For the early adopter on your list, these new watches provide some exciting new functionality to be worn on the wrist. The InstaWatch for example, allows you to upload your favorite Instagram picture. There are variety of models from Samsung, Sony and Pebble.
