2015 Technology Trends and Your Business

by Ted Saul

Technology continues to develop in 2015 but the challenge remains the same, what to introduce into your business and how to use it for your company’s benefit? A few areas to consider:

ü  Computing everywhere. With the focus on user experience, new smart phones and mobile devices will allow you to be productive anywhere. “Screen connect” products allow you to “throw” your information to any display ready monitor. Wearables will continue to grow too. Eventually your employees won’t have to run back to a computer or carry a tablet to look up inventory or checkout a customer.

ü  Everything on the Internet. If you are computing everywhere then you might as well connect it to the Internet. You’ll see more development of smart devices that monitor everything from your store’s temperature, to the security system and even machinery used in production or preparation of a product. All will be connectable via the Internet and accessible wherever you have a connection giving you a “smart business”.

ü  3D Printing. Companies are already using these devices to create prototypes and mock-ups of new products. Usage is expected to grow as new materials become available to produce products of all types. And if the cost of the printer is still prohibitive, there are 3-D Printing Service companies that will work with you to create the product you need.

ü  Smart Virtual Personal Assistants. Voice command apps such as SIRI and Google Now will continue to develop and be integrated into software making your life easier. Expect more hands free interaction allowing the ability to work on the road as well as complete tasks in a timely manner.

ü  Social Payments. From PayPal to Apple Pay, the race is on to find the fastest way to collect payments. Your company may benefit from these new apps especially if the traditional cash register station doesn’t fit your business model. Be watching developments in methods that find new ways of taking the cashless society to a higher level.

ü  Smart Machines. This category can include everything from robots, self-driving cars and other systems. Designed to increase productivity and efficiency, they can make decisions and solve problems without your intervention. When replacing aging equipment, look for intelligent machines.
